What I am learning about my writing
I realize that I am not always comfortable writing. I usually can state what I want to write, but have a harder time documenting my thoughts. Writing takes time. I like things to be a certain way, and that takes even more time. As I read sentences, it is hard for me to pick out nouns, verbs, subjects, prepostional phrases, etc. I do not feel I received a good education in grammar, which makes writing even more difficult for me. I can do spell check and can usually find punctuation errors. It is hard for me to revise and identify my writing style, structure and argument. The examples that we have read in the book have been hard for me to identify. I can tell you which paragraph sounds better and is easier to read. But, underlining certain parts of the sentence does not come easy. I also know I need to work on putting new information at the end of paragraphs. This would make new information easier for my readers to understand. Overall, I need to become more aware of my writing. I think it is easy to get caught up in completing an assignment and not taking time to revise, particuarlly for class assignments. But, my writing would be better if I revised in addition to editing.

Anita, I also missed out on some of the grammar lessons. If they taught it in my school, I must have been absent that day! Most of what I have learned, I have picked up on my own and I, too, find it difficult to disect the sentences in the book.
