My writing has progressed over the years and it has started to become easier with each passing year. In the past, I had multiple people to proof-read my work, and I should consider doing more of that now. However, time always seems to be an issue for myself and those that proof-read my work.
The Smallwood article talks about having her personal space to write. I am like this and require my own personal domain. Since having my son, I have had to rearrange rooms in my house. We converted the office into the nursery and moved the office into the guest bedroom. This is working for me, and should continue. However, a barrier for me will be taking care of my son and completing assignments between feeding time, play time and crying times (crying being the worse!).
My husband is a big supporter of me and will do what he can to assist. He has been rearranging his travel schedule so that he is not out of town as often. Last Tuesday, my husband watched our child and worked from home while I was gone. When I got back he had a new appreciation for me and how much work it is taking care of a newborn. He said he hoped I was able to complete my school work while taking care of Corbin because it was hard for him to get his work completed. Our conversation continued by me setting up expectations that he will need to watch Corbin on the weekends while I work on class assignments. I even mentioned that I may need to leave the house and go to the local library or coffee shop.
I am sure with persistence I will be a wonderful mother and student. This is a new transition for me, and I will find a way to do both.

Anita -
You are looking for a balance that will take a lot of give and take between you and your husband. The best two years I think I have had were the two years I stayed at home and took care of my sons while I was working on my MA. I still think the bonds forged there are still strong today - 13 years later! There is nothing like being a parent - ENJOY!
Anita,
You are brave! It's a hard juggling act, but with a supportive partner, it's possible. I agree with Steve...we started having children when I was finishing my doctorate, and because I was a full-time student (without a full-time job), I could help with the babies. It was exhausting and joyful...the babies give us license to be playful and silly. A good antidote to being too serious with the rest of life.
